Sega’s Steam releases to see mod support and new virtual hub

Do all those Sega Master Drive/Sega Genesis games you own on Steam have an interface that feels a little plain and boring? Well, Sega Europe has something for you with a new virtual hub known as the “Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub.”

The new virtual hub will be a free download for anyone who currently owns any of the 50 different Sega Masterdrive/Genesis released on Steam, like Sonic the Hedgehog, Toe Jam and Earl, Phantasy Star, Street of Rage and more. The hub is all about that ’90s nostalgia and is recreated to look like a Sega fan’s gaming room which features a CRT TV, retro Sega paraphernalia, and a shelf full of Mega Drive games. If that’s not enough, there’s also the dynamic time-of-day conditions.

Sega also announced that the Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub “will now feature Steam Workshop support allowing you to share modified versions of your favorite retro Sega titles.” It hasn’t been specified what kind of mod support entails; however, I like the idea of being able to play some of my favorite games with a few changes.

The Sega Mega Drive Classics Hub is scheduled for a release on April 28th in Europe. While a North America version hasn’t been officially announced yet, it’s almost guaranteed that it will happen sooner of later, more than likely under the title Sega Genesis Classics Hub.
