Dave Franco discusses Star Wars’ Han Solo audition

The hunt for the next Han Solo is still underway with Alden Ehrenreich, a front-runner for the role. Obviously, this is a highly-coveted job with several actors hoping to get a chance to play the smooth-talking smuggler turned Galactic Civil War hero. Dave Franco is one of these actors.

While promoting his new film, Now You See Me 2, the young star spoke with MTV about auditioning as Solo for the new Star Wars spinoff film. Interestingly, Franco made the experience sound less than spectacular and compared it to any other audition he’s attended. However, he did make a note of the outside factors, separate from the audition itself, that did make the experience unique

“Because of the nature of what it is, it just explodes everywhere,” he said. “I don’t want to underplay; I’m very flattered to have been, or be, in the conversation, but it is what it is.”

The actor was also confused as to what degree the studio would like the new actor to be like Harrison Ford; would it be better for a newcomer to try and imitate the veteran or make the role his own?

The Han Solo film will focus on the character in his early years and will feature his sidekick, Chewbacca. It’s scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018.
