David Wenham joins the cast of ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’

David Wenham (Lord of the Rings trilogy) has joined the cast of “Marvel’s Iron Fist” as Harold Meachum. “I’m very excited to have David as our Harold Meachum. David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence,” said showrunner, Scott Buck. “This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season.”

“David brings both a vulnerability and a danger to his many diverse roles,” said Jeph Loeb. “This key quality creates a gravitas our series requires as Danny unravels the secrets behind Rand Enterprises.”

Those familiar with the comics should recognize the significance of Wenham’s role. In the comics, Danny’s father and Joy’s father founded the company: Rand Meachum Inc. Wendell Rand and Harold Meachum soon begin a quest to find the mystical land of K’un-Lun. With the door to K’un-Lun opening once every 10 years, Wendell seeks to return to K’un-Lun and decides to bring along Heather, his wife, his son Danny, and Harold Meachum along for the dangerous mountain expedition. But along the way, Harold decides to try and kill Wendell to gain sole possession of their company. Harold took hold of the company while he patiently waited for the return of Wendell’s son, Danny.

When the two finally met, Danny refused to kill Harold, but a mysterious assassin did. Harold’s daughter, Joy, mistakenly believes that the Iron Fist is the man responsible for her father’s deaths. In order to exact revenge on him, Meachum employs the assassin, Steel Serpent, to assassinate him. This begins a series of complicated encounters between Serpent, Danny, and Joy where Danny’s name is eventually cleared in the murder of Harold and the two become slightly awkward allies in the management of Rand Corporation.

Along with the announcement of Wenham’s casting, Marvel has released a teaser image with some grim news about Harold Meachum.
