Popular anime series, FLCL, to return with new seasons on Adult Swim

FLCL (pronounced Fooly Cooly), the popular anime series in 2000, will be getting new seasons on Adult Swim’s Toonami block. Yes, after 16 years, anime fans can start to get excited again. Adult Swim has announced it will have help from animation studio Production IG (Ghost in the Shell) with producing the two new six-episode seasons that continues where the original left off.

The original anime followed Naota, a 12-year-old boy who encounters a woman who would change his life forever, whether for good or for bad.

Kazuya Tsurmaki, FLCL series creator, will be supervising with Katsuyuki Motohiro (Psycho-Pass) as director, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion) as character designer, and Hideto Iwai (Last Dinner) as this season’s writer.

Production IG was established in 1987 and produced animated feature films and TV shows like Patlabor: The Movie, the animation sequence in Kill Bill: Vol 1 and Attack on Titan.

In the new season of FLCL, many years have passed since Naota and Haruhara Haruko shared their adventure together. Meanwhile, the war between the two entities known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. Enter Hidomi, a young teenaged girl who believes there is nothing amazing to expect from her average life, until one day when a new teacher named Haruko arrives at her school. Soon enough, Medical Mechanica is attacking her town and Hidomi discovers a secret within her that could save everyone, a secret that only Haruko can unlock.

But why did Haruko return to Earth?
What happened to her Rickenbacker 4001 she left with Naota?
And where did the human-type robot ‘Canti’ go?

The new season will premiere in late 2017/early 2018 on Adult Swim.

Here’s hoping the Japanese rock band, Pillows, return for the soundtrack.

And here’s one of my favorite anime music videos for FLCL.
