It’s official! Finn Jones will be the living weapon Iron Fist. Marvel confirmed today that the “Game of Thrones” actor will play Danny Rand in the upcoming Marvel/Netflix series.

“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means,” said Executive Producer and showrunner, Scott Buck. “Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.”

“Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world,” said Jeph Loeb. “Now that we’ve found our Danny Rand, we’ve completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe.”

In addition, Marvel has released a teaser image asking the question: “Who is Danny Rand?”

Those familiar with Iron Fist should recognize the name, Joy Meachum. In the comics, Danny’s father and Joy’s father founded the company: Rand Meachum Inc. Wendell Rand and Harold Meachum soon begin a quest to find the mystical land of K’un-Lun. With the door to K’un-Lun opening once every 10 years, Wendell seeks to return to K’un-Lun and decides to bring along Heather, his wife, his son Danny, and Harold Meachum along for the dangerous mountain expedition. But along the way, Harold decides to try and kill Wendell to gain sole possession of their company. Harold took hold of the company while he patiently waited for the return of Wendell’s son, Danny. When the two finally met, Danny refused to kill Harold, but a mysterious assassin did. Harold’s daughter, Joy, mistakenly believes that the Iron Fist is the man responsible for her father’s deaths. In order to exact revenge on him, Meachum employs the assassin, Steel Serpent, to assassinate him. This begins a series of complicated encounters between Serpent, Danny, and Joy where Danny’s name is eventually cleared in the murder of Harold and the two become slightly awkward allies in the management of Rand Corporation.

Marvel/Netflix’s “Iron Fist” will premiere sometime in 2017.
