Pokémon’s 20th anniversary will include Super Bowl spot and Red Championship edition Nendroid

PIKACHUIt’s hard to believe that the Pokémon franchise has been around for 20 years. To celebrate, The Pokémon company has some pretty big plans in store year round which include a special “Train On” ad during Super Bowl 50. It will mark the first time that Pikachu will appear during the game.

Pokémon Day will arrive on February 27th, which will see the release of the new Pokémon Generations TCG expansion. Select Toys’R’US will be holding special events with giveaways along with Nintendo re-stocking Pikachu, Charizard, Jigglypuff, Greninja, and Lucario amiibo in select store. That’s not all though as February 27th will also see the release of the special 20th Anniversary New Nintendo 3DS bundle, with both Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue installed along with two interchangeable face plates.

Fans of the Pokémon movies will be able to download all 12 full-length Pokémon feature films digitally from iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon including remastered versions of Pokémon: The First MoviePokémon the Movie 2000 and Pokémon 3: The Movie. One movie will be released each month and the original three movies will also be released in both DVD and Blu-ray from Viz Media.

Starting next month, the Pokémon company will be holding special distribution events where trainers can download Mew, Darkrai, Arceus, Genesect, and other mythical Pokémon at participating GameStop locations throughout 2016, as long as they own a copy of Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, or Pokémon Y.

By far the best announcement is the release of the Pokémon Trainer Red: Championship version Nendroid which will be released exclusively on the PokemonCenter website. The Red nendroid released last year and quickly sold out. The original release featured the starter versions of the original Pokémon trio, while this version features their fully evolved forms. It’s definitely worth ordering these as quickly as they go up since the original Red now goes for over $150 on the second hand market.

2016 looks to be a great year for the Pokémon franchise especially with the release of Pokkén Tournament coming to the Wii U this Spring, and Pokémon Go!
