There’s something about DDOS attackers, video games and Christmas. Last year PlayStation Network and Xbox Live were attacked during Christmas, causing many players grief since they could not play or connect online. Now it looks like the Sony and Microsoft services are going to be attacked again on Christmas, and this time it’s by a new DDOS attack group.

Phantom Squad has been tweeting about its plan for some weeks and has claimed it’s responsible for blackouts from other gaming platforms this year and recently Reddit.

“We will take down servers on christmas Or christmas eve Who Knows? Its up to you Will you waste Your Money On a console This christmas to find that It is #Offline?”

So why is it taking down the Xbox and PlayStation online services?

“Xbox Live and PSN have millions upon millions of dollars… but do they use that money for better security? No. … So until they open their eyes Xbox Live and PSN will remain vulnerable,” tweeted Phantom Squad on Wednesday.

“I get asked a lot on why we do this? Why do we take down PSN and Xbox Live? Because cyber security does not exist.”

“So everyone ready for a great holiday?”

Kim Dotcom pleaded with an attack group last year, and this year he hopes that Sony and Microsoft are prepared.
