Geoff Keighley on why he called out Konami for denying Kojima’s attendance at Game Awards

Geoff Keighley has earned a lot of respect to many gamers when he called out Konami for not letting Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima attend The Game Awards 2015. And by not being able to attend the event, he wasn’t able to receive the award for best action/adventure game. (Kiefer Sutherland, who voiced Metal Gear Solid V’s Big Boss, went to receive the award.)

Keighley has said why he revealed what happened during a Reddit AMA, and it was definitely something he was debating on.

It just broke my heart that he couldn’t be with us – something had to be said. I didn’t tell anyone on the show team what I was going to say and it wasn’t rehearsed.

He talks about what was on his mind when he found out about the news:

We found out in advance, but there was an ongoing dialogue for quite a while. Hideo did watch the show in Tokyo and enjoyed it -just wish he could have been with us.

Konami has been digging a giant hole for itself and it feels like it truly does not care about the gamers anymore. I know many fans are just waiting until Kojima’s time is up at Konami so that he can start to focus on future projects. I’m hoping Guillermo del Toro and Kojima will collaborate once again since Silent Hills was canceled.
