It’s finally happened. The legendary Smash Bros. tournament champion Zero has been dethroned in an official Smash Bros. Wii U tournament. Previously undefeated champion Gonzalo “Zer0” Barrios finally showed that he was indeed mortal when it comes to playing Super Smash Bros. Wii U against the new champion Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada.

Zer0, before this defeat at the hands of the new champ, had won 53 tournaments in a row. You could say that he was due for a loss soon, especially after being sent to the losers bracket in a previous tournament about two weeks ago, only to climb his way back to the finals and continue his streak that day. Remember, nothing’s impossible and anybody is capable of losing, but damn if Zer0 didn’t have fans of Smash Bros. Wii U thinking the opposite for the longest time.

Even though his streak has ended, you can see him being a good sport and accepting his loss and congratulating his opponent, the new champion. The question is how will “Nairo” do walking in the champions shoes? Will he be able to hold a streak as long as Zer0 or could this be a sign that times are changing and we could potentially see a whole new power struggle to hold the coveted title of Super Smash Bros. Wii U champion?

You can check out the finals below to see how history was made, and heck, maybe you might learn a few new tricks watching some others play at the highest level.
