Famous Monsters and Shout! Factory TV present FREE 16-hour Gamera marathon

To celebrate Gamera turning the big 50, Famous Monsters and Shout! Factory TV will host an all-day marathon of some of Gamera’s best films. The marathon will live stream all 11 films in chronological order from Showa Series (1965-1980) to the Heisei Series(1995 -1999). The event will be hosted by Kaiju Expert August Ragone, who will give fans historic details behind the films. Did I mention that it is completely free?

Yes, you heard correct. The 16-hour marathon will be entirely free of charge. You can watch it live on ShoutFactoryTV.com or you download the Pluto TV app, which is available on Andriod, iOS and Amazon devices. The stream will be on Channel 427.

The schedule for the 11 films has already been announced, but some may be subject to change:

8:00 a.m. – Gamera (1965)
Synopsis: During the height of the Cold War, East-West tensions lead to a nuclear disaster when a Soviet bomber is shot down over U.S. airspace in the Arctic! Massive radiation from the atomic explosion awakens an ancient, gargantuan creature, a long-forgotten legend of the lost continent of Atlantis: Gamera! Unleashed from its glacial tomb and proving impervious to all man-made weapons, the colossal chelonian smashes a cataclysmic swath across the globe! Can the scientists of the world find a way to stop this invincible supermonster . . . or is mankind doomed?

9:30 a.m. – Gamera vs. Barugon (1966)
Synopsis: Freed from the Z Plan capsule, Gamera attacks a dam upon his return to Earth. Meanwhile, a private expedition to retrieve a rare opal in New Guinea unwittingly unleashes the malevolent Picking up where the first Gamera movie left off, this action-packed sequel follows the exploits of monster-sized terrapin Gamera, who was miraculously freed from a Mars-bound rocket after a collision with a radioactive asteroid. In a battle of epic proportions, it seems Gamera may have finally met his equal: a 263-foot-long reptilian beastie named Barugon who zaps his foes with icy vapors shot from his mouth.Barugon. Virtually unstoppable and able to freeze anything in its path, the monstrous lizard turns modern cities into glaciers until Gamera arrives to challenge the marauder! But even the fire-spitting
terrapin becomes trapped in the creatures frozen grip. Can one of the explorers help defeat Barugon before it plunges Japan into a new Ice Age?

11:00 a.m. – Gamera vs. Viras (1968)
Synopsis: Aliens from Outerspace try to attack earth but are foiled by Gamera. While resting on the bottom of the ocean, the aliens return and trap Gamera along with two young boys. Gamera rescues the boys and freed himself, but the aliens discovered Gamera’s weakness, his desire to save children. The aliens took the boys captive and threatened to kill them if Gamera wouldn’t obey their commands. Gamera is forced to return to his destructive way, under the control of the aliens. Will Gamer break free in time to save the boys or is he doomed to remain a monster of terror?

12:30 p.m. – Gamera vs. Guiron (1969)
Synopsis: After finding a flying saucer and hitching a ride to outer space, Akio and Tommy touchdown on a distant planet ruled by the evil monster Guiron and inhabited by a pair of women who’d like to get their hands on human brains. Now, their only hope lies with the giant flying turtle Gamera, who has a habit of helping children out of a jam.

2:00 p.m. – Gamera vs. Jiger (1970)
Synopsis: When an ancient statue is moved for display in Expo ’70, a giant Triceratops-like monster is released. The monster goes to Japan in pursuit of the statue and ends up battling Gamera, the giant flying turtle.

3:30 p.m. – Gamera vs. Zigra (1971)
Synopsis: Aliens from a distant planet, called Zigra, send a spaceship, called Zigra, commanded by a strange creature — called Zigra — to Earth with a plan of world domination. Opposing him is a pair of concerned marine biologists, pesky brats Kenny and Helen and, of course, giant turtle monster Gamera.

5:00 p.m. – Gamera: Super Monster (1980)
Synopsis: When the evil alien Zanon comes to enslave earth, all hope seems lost. The Earth’s resident superheroes, the Spacewomen, are powerless to stop him. They must enlist the help of a young boy who has a special connection with the giant turtle Gamera. The Friend of All Children then battles Gyaos (a huge flying vampiric bat/pterosaur), Zigra (an alien shark), Viras (a space squid), Jiger (a giant prehistoric dinosaur), Guiron (a knife-headed extraterrestrial demon beast) and finally Barugon (a enormous lizard whose tongue sprays a freezing liquid that can freeze things solid and a massive back which emits a powerful rainbow energy ray that can melt or dissolve any hard solids). Gamera self-destructs in the end to destroy Zanon once and for all and protect the earth.

6:30 p.m. – Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995)
Synopsis: A plan to dump radioactive waste at sea is disrupted when a mysterious atoll appears at the dumping location. That atoll proves to be something altogether different when hideous flying reptiles, the Gyaos, attack a nearby island and the atoll rises from the sea. It is Gamera! The super turtle combats both a misguided military and the man-eating Gyaos, with help from a courageous naval officer, an intrepid ornithologist and a beautiful young psychic. Don’t miss the most incredible slam-bang, knockdown monster slugfest ever as Gamera turtle-waxes the evil Gyaos through downtown Tokyo in GAMERA: GUARDIAN OF THE UNIVERSE!

8:00 p.m. – Gamera 2: Attack of Legion (1996)
Synopsis: A freak meteor shower near Sapporo, Japan brings with is more than just a killer light show. Electrical problems, overgrown plant life and a whole slew of rather irritable critters also drop in to threaten the human race. Local science instructor Midori Honami is called to assist the brave Colonel Watarase in the military’s oft-confused attempts to save mankind. They must find a way to successfully combine efforts with their reptilian protector, or both will face ultimate destruction from the Earth’s bugged-out invaders. Join the battle as Gamera and his bipedal pals work to repel the Attack of Legion!

10:00 p.m. – Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999)
Synopsis: Still reeling after the hard-fought battle to repel Legion, Japan is now reminded of a deadly foe from the past. The Gyaos have returned, and this time the ornery man-eating birds have not only increased their numbers but also added a menacing new member-Iris-to their destructive little club. Raised by a young girl whose parents Gamera accidentally squished, the flying, blood-sucking squid monster Iris takes her learned hatred and goes out on the warpath. Dr. Nagamine and Inspector Osaka are reunited to help Gamera in his relentless quest to protect and save the human race. Can Gamera ground the Gyaos? Can the turtle tie up the terrible tentacles? Do the hapless humans and the rowdy reptile have what it takes to thwart the revenge of Iris?
