Assassin’s Creed movie is in the same universe as the games

We knew that Ubisoft was very particular in getting its movies done right by creating Ubisoft Motion Pictures. Similar to how Marvel Studios is crafting its own universe with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like Ubisoft is following in Marvel’s footsteps by taking matters into its own hands while also creating a connected universe.

Yep, that’s right, the movie and video games will be sharing the same universe, as revealed by Assassin’s Creed head of content Aymar Azaizia. Check out the tweet below.

Azaizia was then asked whether fans would get to see characters from the game appear in the films.

He replied, “It’s possible you may find some familiar faces.”

The Assassin’s Creed video games have been jumping around time, as we get to relive the Crusade, Italian Renaissance, the American Revolution, the Golden Age of Piracy, the French Revolution, and soon Victorian London. In the movie, Michael Fassbender plays Callum Lynch, who discovers the secret Templar/Assassin war and virtually experiences life as his ancestor, Aguilar, during 15th Century Spain. He finds out that he comes from a line of Assassins.

I’m hoping the Animus will be featured in the film, but we could be getting the Helix system, the consumer version that was used in Assassin’s Creed Unity. What do you guys think?

The movie will be directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) and stars Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Marion Cotillard. The three have worked together on Macbeth. Production starts soon with location shoots taking place in Spain, London and Matla.

The Assassin’s Creed film hits theaters on December 21, 2016.
