Instagram now supports landscape and portrait formats

It looks like Instagram is getting a new update and for the better!

Instagram announced today they were going to support landscape and portrait formats on their popular social media app. Instagram previously only allowed square format for their photos which meant friends may be cut out of the frame in a group photo and landscape scenery isn’t shown in its full beauty. Star Wars was one of the first to test it out with the teaser clips.

Now, when choosing a photo, there will be a format icon you could tap to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape instead of the standard square. The image will still be square on the home page, but when clicked on, it’ll be the full photo you uploaded. This will also including video formatting. You can share photos and videos with aspect ratios between 1.91:1 and 4:5.

The new update is slowly being rolled out and is available for iOs version 7.5 and Android version 7.5 today. For more details on the new update, click here.
