Supergirl cast grows: Justice Leak to play Hellgrammite

Unlike Marvel, DC’s television and film universes are separate which gives writers the ability to add characters to their series with abandon. This means we can look forward a vast array of heroes and villains in the various DC shows returning or premiering this fall, especially CBS’s Supergirl.

Recent announcements indicate that actor Justice Leak (Powers) will be joining the Supergirl cast as the malevolent Hellgrammite. However, it does not appear that Hellgrammite will have the origin story familiar to comic book readers. Originally, the villain was entomologist Roderick Rose who mutates into an insect-like creature due to an experiment gone wrong. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Hellgrammite of the CBS series will be of alien origin, much like Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl, herself. Leak’s IMDB page credits him as Hellgrammite/Thief, indicating that he may be a simple crook given incredible powers by a chance encounter with a creature from another planet.

For now, we can only speculate. It certainly won’t be the first time Justice Leak has taken on an odd role, as his IMDB page credits him with parts in several oddly named shorts like Officer Wanker, Motherf*ckers, and The Gatorade Rap. Certainly helps that his name already sounds like the alter-ego of a supervillain with a less than inspired writer.

Supergirl debuts on CBS October 26th at 8:30pm.
