James Wan is definitely moving up in Hollywood. The Conjuring was a hit and was well-received by many. After that he took on Furious 7, which further catapulted him to hot director status, especially since he took on the directing gig for Aquaman starring Jason Momoa. Now we have news from The Tracking Board that he is going to be the producer for New Line Cinema and Broken Road’s Mortal Kombat movie.

The movie has been in the works for a while, with Kevin Tancharoen (Mortal Kombat Legacy) originally set to direct. He bowed out after Mortal Kombat: Legacy II 2 was released.

Mortal Kombat is a fighting game franchise that features many popular characters including Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Johnny Cage. When the games were first released, it was criticized for its violence. Now it has been continuing on with the latest game, Mortal Kombat X, being released earlier this year. There have also been two movies based on the game, with Mortal Kombat being a faithful adaptation for being a PG-13 movie and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation being panned by critics and fans.

Are you looking forward to a new Mortal Kombat film?
