E3 2015: Storm into Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4

Bandai Namco is continuing to capitalize on the popularity of everyone’s favorite Jutsu user with Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 for the new generation of consoles. This fall will be the first time it’s playable on the new consoles, and I got a sneak peek at what characters and new features we can expect to see when it releases. It was a short demo, but what I can say is that the game is still just as fun as ever.

Each of the 5 playable characters were the versions from the furthest point in the anime/manga including Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, Obito, and Madara. Each of these characters felt upgraded from previous Ninja Storm games and felt balanced, so regardless of your character choice, it was an even match. Now granted when the full version comes out there will be certain power characters, but every fighting game has them.

During my time with the E3 demo, the first thing I noticed was the graphical update. Every time a new installment is released, the game gets closer and closer to matching the look of the anime. The focus was definitely on the characters, the Jutsu and the special effects that go along with them. The demo showed off so much detail that I honestly felt like I was playing out a scene from an episode of the anime. The game feels faster paced than before and they have even added a character swap ability while in combat, so that you have more options while in combat to mix things up in case things aren’t going your way or to further your lead and finish your opponent off. All the characters share the same life bar, chakra, substitution and awakening gauges to keep matches between three-man teams and two-man teams balanced.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is scheduled to release this September for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
