Powers is the first original series for PlayStation that follows two detectives working on cases involving people with powers. Now we have reports from The Hollywood Reporter that it will be renewed for a second season.

The new season will premiere in 2016 exclusively for the PlayStation Network. The show did good on the platform, since it was the most-watched series premiere. If you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you can watch all 10 episodes now for free.

“The reception to ‘Powers’ has been incredible and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” said John Koller, vp platforms marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of ‘Powers.’”

The series is based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s comic of the same name.

I’ve watched the entire show, and I’m very surprised that the show is getting a second season. Personally, I felt that the plot dragged with the action scenes and special effects looking very cheesy. Susan Heyward gives a cringe-worthy performance as Sharlto Copley’s partner, Deena Prilgrim. Hopefully Sony is willing to pump in some more money and some better talent for the new season.
