New Dragon Ball anime series coming this summer

Dragon Ball

With the recent release of Dragon Ball Z: Ressurection of F and Battle of Gods, it seems that Dragon Ball creator Toriyama might want to take a break. But I think the 16-year hiatus gave him enough energy to create a new Dragon Ball anime. This time the next Dragon Ball will be hitting the small screens as a series.

The new anime will be called Dragon Ball Super. This will take place after Goku fights Majin Buu. Fuji TV Producer Osamu Nosaki has read the plot and calls it “the stuff of dreams.” Also, be prepared for stronger foes than Buu or Frieza. Don’t worry, fans, this won’t be another Dragon Ball GT, since this will be handled by Toriyama himself.

This is set to air on Fuji TV in July, but no word on an American release or simultaneous airing. Masako Nozawa, one of the voice actors, is already on board. She was the Japanese voice of Goku, Gohan, and Goten. Though at the age of 79 she is not ready to relinquish the job of voicing Goku to anyone yet. She says:

I’ve said the word ‘super’ countless times in commercials, games, and such. But nothing has felt as good as being able to say ‘Dragon Ball Super’ is starting.
