Death Note remake to be directed by Adam Wingard

Death Note is getting an American remake, and it seems it found its director. Adam Wingard (A Horrible Way to Die) is now on board for the assumed Warner Brothers live-action remake. He proved he can take on complicated family matters in You’re Next, and he sure knows how to get a song stuck in your head. Wingard is already attached to The Woods, and filming will begin on Death Note after that wraps.

Anime synopsis:

Light, a bright student who stumbles across a mystical notebook that has the power to kill any person whose name he writes in it. Light decides to launch a secret crusade to rid the streets of criminals. Soon, the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous FBI criminal profiler known only by the alias L.

Along with a director, Death Note also has a team of producers committed with Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka. Previous directors said to be attached included Shane Black (Iron Man 3) and Gus Van Sant.

Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) has been cited for the latest drafts of the script. The project sounds extremely dark and promising.
