Josh Gad cast as LeFou in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast

Olaf has officially joined Disney’s live-action version of Beauty and the Beast. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Josh Gad will be playing Luke Evans’ faithful, bird-brained sidekick LeFou in the live-action adaptation. After news broke that the actor would be playing LeFou, Gad tweeted a picture of him standing next to his cartoon counterpart.

Gad is the first American to join the film as British actress Emma Watson (the Harry Potter series) has been cast as Belle, Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) as the Beast and Luke Evans (Dracula Untold) as Gaston. Gad is no stranger to singing as he played Elder Arnold Cunningham in The Book of Mormon and Olaf in Frozen. So he should be able to perform “Gaston” with no trouble at all.

Beauty and the Beast is just one of many animated films that Disney is giving the live-action treatment. Although Disney previously took liberties with the animated source material (see: Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent), Beauty and the Beast will be keeping in line with the original 1991 animated film like they did with Cinderella — which is opening to rave reviews. The next live-action adaptation we can look forward to is Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book, which opens on April 15th, 2016.

What do you think of Josh Gad as LeFou in Beauty and the Beast?
