The Walking Dead 5×13 ‘Forget’ review

Quick recap: Sasha grabs some of the photos from the house of happy families and uses them as target practice outside the compound. You could tell she is distraught with the way of life in Alexandria and just hasn’t adjusted. We see Daryl outside the compound hunting and ends up talking to Aaron. They bond over the loss of a wild horse that has been eaten by zombies. Aaron convinces Daryl of becoming a recruiter with him. Michonne has hung up her katana, symbolizing that she’s ready to accept this place. Rick and Carol plan to steal some guns for safety purposes during a party at Deanna’s home. Rick interacts more with married Jessie and even kisses her on the cheek. Carol steals some guns and scares a little boy to submission at the same time.

Sasha is experiencing a little PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). She lost her boyfriend and her brother during this zombie apocalypse and all of the sudden, she is supposed to go back to civilian life? She is mentally struggling and is a ticking time bomb. Can we blame her? She still hasn’t transitioned from survivor mode. While the others have slowly accepted the new life in the Alexandria Safety Zone, she just hasn’t.

What’s with the W on the walker? No, it doesn’t mean Walker. It could mean “Wolves” because the writers have teased “Wolves not far” on the walls in Noah’s old neighborhood. It could be a new enemy group that could be the Saviors from the comics or could be a newly written group for the show. It could also mean Wolves as in lone wolves; people who have been exiled. So many theories! Just tell us already, AMC!

Rick is now a constable. Of course, he doesn’t trust the place completely, but he’s learning to accept it… including the women of the town. He actually made a move on a MARRIED woman. Does that sound familiar to you? Wait, didn’t his best mate Shane make a move on Rick’s wife? This was really disappointing. Of course, who could blame him? Other than his own camp, Jessie seems to be the only attractive woman, who is also Rick’s age, in Alexandria. Could the A that was stamped on Rick and Jessie’s hand symbolize Adultery? Some foreshadowing from the writers?! Rick needs to get his shit together.

Michonne hung up her katana in the house, which to us symbolized that she is ready to accept Alexandria and just have a home. It was actually pretty nice. She is also looking good in her officer uniform!

It’s kind of hard to imagine Daryl accepting a job from the people of Alexandria. It was like he did a 180, but honestly, Aaron is just so likable. They bonded over a horse they tried to save, but couldn’t. I feel like that connected them. I still feel like it was a bit too much for Daryl to trust him so easily to not grab a gun from Carol. That seemed too trusting, even for Daryl. But, I do love Aaron.

walkingdead2I love that Carol is making herself look weak, but is really a badass. It can get annoying watching men tell her “we’ll give you a gun lesson,” but I understand her game. She wants to appear weak, just in case. After sneaking into the gun room to grab some guns, Jessie’s son, Sam, catches her and wants some cookies. Carol tells him she’ll give him cookies if he doesn’t tell anyone she saw him here. He tells her he tells his mother everything… that’s when Carol becomes scary.

She threatens him: “You can never tell your mom, cuz if you do… one morning you’ll wake up and you won’t be in your bed. You’ll be outside the walls… far, far way. Tied to a tree. You’ll scream and scream because you’ll be so afraid. No one will come to help, because no one will hear you, but something will hear you. The monsters will come, the ones out there, and you won’t be able to run away when they come for you. And they will tear you apart and eat you up all while you’re still alive, all while you can still feel it. And then afterward no one will know what happened to you. Or, you can promise not to ever tell anyone that you saw me here and then nothing will happen and you’ll get cookies. Lots of cookies.”

Take the cookies, Sam. Take the cookies.

This week seemed a bit boring for the cast. They were their own enemies, because they were trying to adjust to a new life. We will see a bit of the others’ lives in Alexandria. There seems to be some trouble outside too. Maybe we will finally see some zombie action!

The Walking Dead airs on Sundays at 9pm on AMC.
