Aquaman costume designer says new look caters to modern audiences

Marvel Studios has been pretty faithful to the look of its superhero characters. Iron Man looks like Iron Man, Captain America looks like Captain America, and the Hulk looks like the Hulk. As for Zack Snyder, he has a different approach to some of the popular DC comic book characters. In Man of Steel, Superman no longer wears red underwear and Wonder Woman is wearing a Greek-inspired outfit compared to her classic uniform. However, the Aquaman design looks to be the most drastic of all the DC heroes in the DC cinematic universe so far.

We no longer see the classic color combination of orange and green. Aquaman now has tattoos with scales instead of wearing a tight top with scales on them. So who can we thank for the new look? Zack Snyder and costume designer Michael Wilkinson (300, Man of Steel). Wilkinson told toofab about working on the new outfit.

“It has been a thrill and an honor to bring this iconic character to life for a modern audience,” Wilkinson said.

“Zack Snyder has a brilliant vision for making this character powerful and relevant,” he added. “I enjoyed designing a costume that reflects this vision and honors the character’s rich legacy.”

Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) plays Aquaman, and he will be appearing first in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016.
