Relatives dress dead man as Green Lantern

Now here’s something that will give you the creeps. Puerto Rican relatives have honored a man by dressing him up as Green Lantern. Oh, did I mention the man is dead? He was wearing the outfit during the last weeks of his life, and now his family has kept the outfit on him in death as he stands.

Renato Garcia passed away at the age of 50 due to respiratory issues in San Jose in the Rio Piedras neighborhood. The sister said that the Green Lantern outfit was discovered in a bag filled with donated clothes.

“He was always very helpful,” his sister, Milagros Garcia, told Primera Hora. “You beckoned and he was always there.”

Garcia’s funeral will be held this Wednesday.

If you’re shocked by this, don’t be. Apparently it’s normal to pose embalmed bodies at wakes and funerals in Puerto Rico. For example, Georgina Lloren, who passed away at the age of 80, was posed in a way that looked like she was still on her favorite rocking chair last year. We also had Angel Pantoja Medina posed standing while wearing urban clothing in 2008. The list goes on.
