Is a live-action Robotech movie finally in the works?

Robotech 1

It’s been quite some time since there were stirrings of Hollywood attempting to sink its teeth into this anime genre. It was around 2006 and 2007 that there were rumors of Warner Bros trying to get this movie up and flying, but none of that came to fruition. Attached to these rumors early on was Tobey Maguire, and in 2013 it was Leonardo DiCaprio. However, none of these supposed stars or production of this film came to pass.

It is now 2015, and the guys over at Deadline are reporting something different. It looks like this movie is finally seeing the light of day with the Hollywood Gang involved; it’s also reported that Michael Gordon, the writer of G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and 300 will tackle the screenplay alongside Andy Muschietti, the director of Mama.

Robotech, which was originally known in Japan as The Macross Saga, has been a long-time popular anime series since the ’80s. If you’re an anime fan, then you’re sure to know more about the adventures of Minmei, Rick Hunter, Roy Fokker, and Lisa Hayes. Hopefully the adapted story is one where there’s enough character development so that the Zentradi aren’t one dimensional. If you don’t know what I’m talking about I suggest educating yourself more about Robotech. 😉

Here’s to hoping that they can make this finally happen! I’d love to see the Veritech mecha blasting enemies and shooting across the skies! Let’s go team Robotech Defense Force!!!
