Ryan Reynolds reveals Green Lantern never had a script

133543_movie-trailer-ryan-reynolds-is-green-lanternGreen Lantern will probably go down as one of the worst comic book movies of all-time. Its gigantic failure at the box-office almost single-handedly killed all of Warner Brothers plans for a Justice League movie and Ryan Reynolds’ career. Well, that and RIPD.

With Deadpool now in his sights, Ryan Reynolds revealed in a recent interview that prior to him signing on, there was no script for Green Lantern.

“When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn’t exist. I’m not complaining about it — it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that’s what’s different on this one.”

This concept is shockingly not that rare in Hollywood. Even Marvel’s first big movie Iron Man began production with just a rough outline for the film.

Looking back on Green Lantern, Reynolds now believes in the Deadpool movie because of the script they’ve had for quiet sometime.

“We’ve had a script for three years. The script got leaked, and people even loved that. That says a lot — if you can create a script around a comic-book character that is directly within the canon of the character and be embraced. That’s a huge step in the right direction.”
