Robert Orci is no longer directing Star Trek 3

Robert Orci is out from the director’s chair for Star Trek 3. Deadline announced that Orci is no longer directing the third film, but will remain on as producer.

Orci was announced as the director for the third film after JJ Abrams left to work on Star Wars: Episode VII. There were many critics, including myself, who weren’t sure about Orci directing Star Trek for his directorial debut.

The film is now looking for replacement directors and rumors have included Cornetto Trilogy’s Edgar Wright. With Orci out, the potential 2016 release date may be pushed back. The film is still in the early stages of pre-production. So we will have to see.
