Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots heads to PlayStation 3 as a digital download

Metal Gear SolidYou read that right PlayStation fans, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be re-released as a digital download for your PlayStation 3. The original game was released on disk back in 2008 and had several groundbreaking features.

In Gun of the Patriots we had the first taste of non-linear stages, allowing you to explore the map like never before. We also got to use the in-game DualShock controller to maneuver the Metal Gear Mk. II droid to cause some nice havoc. Next was the Predator-like abilities with the OctoCamo suit that allowed Snake to blend in with his surroundings. Last but not least was the introduction of enhanced Closed Quarters Combat (CQC) system. With this hand-to-hand combat system you were able disarm or knock out your opponent with martial art skills.

The game itself took place in a future where huge conglomerates fought for supremacy using armies of mercenaries, bringing nothing but devastation to the area. We got to see an older Solid Snake infiltrating numerous locations around the globe as the game pushed the limits of the aged hero.

You can relive all these elements of Gun of the Patriots on December 16, 2014 for $19.99. Those of you who get the game may need to make some room on your PlayStation 3, as the game will take a monstrous 30GB of hard drive space!
