Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange, Marvel confirms!

Marvel has announced today that Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrible accident, discovers a world of magic and alternate dimensions.

Benedict Cumberbatch is known to audiences as BBC’s Sherlock and, most recently, playing famed mathematician Alan Turing in The Imitation Game. We will hear him again as the dragon Smaug in the final Hobbit film, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which comes out this month.

Cumberbatch  is no stranger to huge franchises – portraying the iconic villain Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, voicing Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and of course, playing Sherlock Holmes. He is rumored to also be in Star Wars. Now, Cumberbatch has joined the Marvel family as Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange is scheduled to come out on November 4th, 2016 as part of Marvel’s Phase 3.
