Fantastic Four’s Victor Von Doom will now be…wait for it…Victor Domashev

I can see it now, millions of fans having the look of “WTF?” on their faces. Why? Well, the actor who’s going to play Doctor Doom, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of Apes), has revealed to Collider what his character’s real name is going to be in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot movie.

He will no longer be known as Victor Von Doom.

“He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story,” Kebbel said. “And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that… I’m a programmer; very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m ‘Doom.'”

His character seems to have more of a modern take. In the comics, Victor was a student who hated another fellow student, Reed Richards. He wanted to create a machine that can talk to the dead, but due to the machine’s failure, it blew up in his face, literally. Now with a scarred face, he blames Richards for the accident.

Hmm, perhaps in the reboot, “Domashev” is coding something very dangerous, and a computer monitor blows up in his face. Perhaps he’ll blame Richards for leaving the computer on overnight. Who knows?

As for how director Josh Trank is handling the movie, Kebbell said that it’s going to be “lo-fi” and “ultra-real.”

What do you think of Victor’s real name in the reboot?

The Fantastic Four reboot hits theaters on August 7, 2015.
