Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2 Review – Not a ghost of a chance

In Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, he thwarted Betrayus, who is after the Repository which houses the bodies of all the ghosts in the netherworld that will somehow allow him to take over the world. In the second game, he is once again after the Repository. Instead of doing it himself, he will try to trick Pac-Man to get what he wants.

The games is pretty straightforward as you have to get to the next section. Each map contains about 10 areas to explore and complete along with a boss battle at the end of each. Pac-Man has the ability to transform into different modes by eating special pellets, which give him different abilities to solve a few random puzzles and defeat enemy ghosts. With a total of 5 different forms, Pac isn’t alone as his two friends, Cylindria and Spiral, also join him in his adventure which results in a random shooting game that adds a little more action in the game.

While exploring you are limited to just how much you can see. With platforming levels you have no camera controls, so it’s easy to misjudge just how much space you need which becomes a pain quite often. There are other times where gobbling ghosts would glitch, preventing me from proceeding forward as I try to locate hidden items. This lead to me having to return to my last checkpoint or restarting the stage.

The game has its moments and others where it just feels too repetitive. You are rewarded with lives for every 250 pellets you eat or every 100 ghosts you eat. You can easily get 1 ups by visiting the town over and over, so you never have to worry about running out of lives. It doesn’t give you the chance to really enjoy certain powers since it quickly makes you swap out abilities for ones that aren’t as fun. The final battles are the game’s finer moments which revolve around some strategy and ability to think on your toes. Overall the game seemed to toss in so many random things to please kids to the point that it lost its charm.
