Ben Affleck reveals origin of Star Wars and Batman v Superman rivalry

J.J. Abrams is currently working on Star Wars: Episode VII and Zack Snyder is currently working on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. What turned into a small teasing of the different films became a social media event. We saw a Batmobile on the Millennium Falcon and a stormtrooper in Gotham City. In an interview with Yahoo, Ben Affleck, who plays Batman in the upcoming movie, reveals the origin of the friendly rivalry.

“I think it was started because JJ [Abrams] and Colin Anderson, who is a great [camera] operator who always works on my movies, and JJ is always trying to steal, and I’m trying to steal back, sent me a picture of the two of them wearing cheap Batman masks. I showed it to Zack [Snyder], and said ‘this is bullshit, we have to do something’. I think it’s cool. The sort of meta-awareness of these movies, and the two directors going back and forth… I like it, it’s cool.”

They responded with Henry Cavill dressed up as a Jedi with a red lightsaber this year in July.

It’s a good time to be a nerd.

Star Wars: Episode VII hits theaters on December 18, 2015 and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
