The first trailer for the second season of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has arrived, which shows us our first glimpse of what to expect from the new run of episodes.

From the trailer, S.H.I.E.L.D. looks to be heading into darker territory for its sophomore season. While the series received criticism in the early episodes of the first season, fans and critics noted huge improvements as the series found its feet, and was given a sense of direction by the major plot twist from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now with Agent Director Coulson in charge, its looking as if his S.H.I.E.L.D. team will be functioning more as a “Men in Black” type operation than a public organization.

Season 2 will see appearances from Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”) as Isabelle Hartley, Adrianne Palicki (“Friday Night Lights”) as Mockingbird, Reed Diamond (“Dollhouse”) as Daniel Whitehall/Kraken, Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks”) as Skye’s Father, Brian Patrick Wade (“HBO’s Generation Kill”) as Absorbing Man will all guest star on the show this upcoming season.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns to TV on Tuesday, September 23rd at 9pm.
