Marvel Bishoujo Spider-Woman Metallic Paint Statue Review

San Diego Comic-Con 2014 is less than a week away and for some people it’s all about the exclusive collectibles If you have never been to San Diego Comic-Con before, it is complete insanity…in a good way. The lines for these exclusive collectibles can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or even more.

SDCC Figure 15

For the last few years Kotobukiya has released Comic-Con exclusive variants of their very popular Bishoujo line, and this year Kotobukiya announced two exclusive Bishoujo lines. The first is a Psylocke Bishoujo painted in her “Classic Era” X-Men colors (available at their booth), and the second is a Spider-Woman Metallic Paint version from Action Figure Xpress.

While Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman isn’t the most recognized female hero on the Marvel roster, this member of the New Avengers is given a Japanese design by illustrator Shunya Yamashita, who has worked on all of the Marvel, DC and even video game based Bishojou statues.

Everything that was included in the regular edition of the Spider-Woman Bishoujo is included and even features the Limited Edition sticker on top. Inside you’ll find Spider-Woman, an interchangeable face that features an unmasked Jessica and a webbed themed base to place the figure (the compartment underneath can store the extra face).

Everything in this figures shines…literally and figuratively. The crouched pose is designed to replicate the infamous spider pose. The figure is articulated from head to toe to show off her beautiful body and highlight her different features. Her long black hair flows in the wind, spreading out and wild while still being elegant.

You can really enjoy the figure in the front or the back, and with the right amount of light the metallic paint shimmers and shines, almost projecting different colors. Yes we took a back shot to showcase the full figure but wow did they really put a lot of focus on the…..pose. I found myself liking the Spider-Woman bishoujo statue with the unmasked face. Shunya Yamashita and Kotobukiya did a great job.

SDCC Figure 2

I just recently got into collecting the Bishoujo line, and this is definitely my favorite of them all. It’s a really nice piece to add to your collection even if you don’t know the character. Kotobukiya made the piece look amazing and Action Figure Xpress did a great job highlighting the figure with the Metallic Paint.

If you haven’t picked up the Spider-Woman Bishoujo statue yet and are going to San Diego Comic-Con, you can visit the Action Figure Xpress booth (Booth #3345). It’s limited to 800 pieces and retails for $80 ($20 more than the regular version).
