Mario Kart 8 sells 1.2 million copies on launch weekend

Mario Kart 8 released on Friday, May 30th (May 29th in Japan), and now Nintendo reports Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U has sold 1.2 million copies worldwide. This makes Mario Kart 8 the fastest selling Wii U game to date since the Wii U’s release back in November 2012.

The lack of video games really put fans on the edge about what was going on with the console with very few first party titles released in the console’s first 18 months. 1.2 million copies really has to put a lot of smiles on not only Nintendo executives, but also fans worldwide, as sales of the Nintendo Wii U system has also gone up thanks to the games’ release.

With E3 right around the corner, it becomes interesting to see what else Nintendo has to announce and show off aside from the already expected Super Smash Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
