Announcing Helen McCarthy’s ‘A Brief History of Manga’

It’s a truly exciting summer for anime and manga, including the re-release and/or reimagining of classics like Sailor Moon, Ghost in The Shell, and more. Now we’ll also be getting Helen McCarthy’s book, A Brief History of Manga.

Releasing in July 2014, hopefully right in time for Anime Expo, this book will be a great guide to the manga we know and love and many more, plus amazing history and facts, figures, and anecdotes. We can look forward to reading about everything manga through its 150 history filled with incredible illustrations and knowledge about the publishers, writers, artists, and innovators.

For those of you who have never experienced any of Helen McCarthy’s books, you will be in for a treat.

If you do not know, Helen McCarthy is one of the foremost experts on anime and manga in the world, and is the author of eleven books on these topics. Her works include the first book in English language devoted to anime, and the Harvey Award-winning The Art of Osamu Tezuka: God of Manga. She has also curated the Osamu Tezuka Film Festival at London’s Barbican Centre, and is developing a three-part documentary on the history of manga.
