Godzilla will rise again as there is a sequel in talks

The recently released Godzilla movie has been destroying the competition and having fans show up for multiple viewings. Thanks to that, it has helped Godzilla become a monster in the box office (Ok, I’ll stop with the puns). It has already raked in $103 million internationally, that’s without China and Japan, who will see release dates of June 13th (China) and July 25th (Japan). Domestically, it has brought in just about $93 million so far and the day is not over yet. With its success during this weekend, talks are already being made about a sequel. Both Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are talking about bringing fans another iteration to this smash hit.

According to Variety in an interview with John Jashni, President and Chief Creative Officer of Legendary Pictures,

It’s very validating. You can’t ask for a better situation when you have a group of people, who were perhaps expecting to be let down were impressed. It all lines up when that eco-system aligns and starts feeding off itself.

When Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. put out that they were doing a remake of Godzilla, it was met with a lot of doubt due to the 1998 remake from Sony. They knew what they were going up against and went through with it and now can know that they did the right thing.

John also said,

Our initial goal was to re-brand and re-establish the property in a Tiffany way. Now, we’re trying to take in all of the results of the weekend.

I’ve seen the movie twice already, and so have some of the NR folks. I did not believe that 3D IMAX was necessary for viewing, but a luxury if you wanted to see Godzilla in a large format. I found a better viewing and listening pleasure in an ATMOS theater. I do hope they will bring back Gareth Edwards because he did a fantastic job.

Have you seen the movie? If you have, are you excited about this news? Let us know.
