Vikings Season 2 Premiere Review – ‘Brother’s War’

Vikings will be premiering its second season tonight (10/9c) on the History Channel. If you haven’t seen the first season, there may be spoilers below.

History’s first scripted drama was a hit. It’s a tale about how a simple viking named Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) wanted more in life. He becomes ambitious and forms a small group to help him sail West to find unexplored lands…and to pillage and plunder.

In the season finale, Ragnar traveled afar and slept with Princess Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland), without the consent of his wife, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). His brother, Rollo (Clive Standen), is jealous of Ragnar’s rise to the top and has teamed up with Jarl Borg (Thorbjørn Harr), a rival viking ruler, so that he too can make something of himself. All the drama leads to the premiere of the second season.

Titled “Brother’s War”, the episode starts off with a bang. Some time has passed, and we see Ragnar and his group getting ready for battle against Jarl Borg and his group. The problem? Ragnar might have to kill his brother. The battle gets pretty violent, as we see vikings fight with sword and shield in hand. The highlight is seeing Rollo fighting shirtless (for you ladies and some gents) and doing some damage to the opposing side.

Well, we know that Ragnar survives the battle, since he has another dilemma. Princess Aslaug travels to his land…bearing his child. He now has to treat her as a guest, and things get pretty uncomfortable with Lagertha around.

The second season is off to a good start. We get an exciting battle scene and a whole lot of drama with Ragnar’s family and the Princess. For those looking for more sailing adventures, don’t worry, we’ll get to see Ragnar in another country soon.
