NBC reporter to do a cosplay documentary series

If you’re a cosplayer, you’re probably rolling your eyes at the thought of an TV reporter doing a documentary series about cosplay. However, I think this will be different because it’s going to be directed by Todd Kenreck. If that name doesn’t sound familiar, he has helped the mainstream NBC viewers learn about nerd culture including video games, cosplay and comics during his 7-year stint at MSNBC and NBCNews.com. His work can also be seen on Kotaku and The Penny Arcade Report.

Working on nerd culture and the news has led him to his passion project, Cosplay Boom and its kickstarter campaign. Todd and his crew plans to travel around the world and conventions to capture the world of cosplay, its people, and what it means to be an artist.

The first season of Cosplay Boom: The Series will have a full episode each month as it covers either a certain cosplay topic, convention, or cosplay group. There will also be a daily video and interview featuring a cosplayer, costumer or prop maker.

If you want to help, you can visit the Cosplay Boom: The Series Kickstarter page and help. The funds will help with production, travel and convention costs, including cameras, editing equipment, and lighting gear.
