Gifts to get yourself after Christmas – Chris’ Nerdy Gift Guide

First off I would like to wish all of you Happy Holidays and hope you are enjoying yourself, whether you are currently at home relaxing, doing last minute shopping or working a few hours before tomorrow.

With Christmas comes gifts, and many of you are probably excited to get them. If you haven’t gotten a gift yet, I’m here to help you out with that with my Nerdy Gift Guide. Sometimes, you just need to treat yourself.

Games

The Nintendo 3DS was a huge hit this year with tons of games to buy. If you don’t have a 3DS, I recommend picking one up (not the 2DS) and get a few of these games:

Personally Fire Emblem: Awakening is my 3DS game of the year. While my 3DS has gotten the most hours played in the last few months, there are still quite a few games to pick up for people who own a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or Wii/Wii U. Here are just a handful of top titles to pick up:

Toys/Figures

You are never too old to stop collecting. With companies like Good Smile, Kotobukiya, Square Enix’s PlayArts and Tamashii Nations’ Bluefin releasing figures and statues from previous game and anime series, here are a few you just have to have.

_pb_9157 For Mega Man X fans, Sigma stands tall with a menacing look. With X, Zero and Vile already released, it only makes sense to release the final boss himself. Taller than any of the other character, Vile prepares to rule the reploids. _pb_4255Devil Summoner’s Raidou Kuzunoha also gets his own figure thanks to Tamashii Nations’ Bluefin. Ready for battle as he comes with his trademark cape and hat. imgGenFor Sailor Moon fans, you can be happy to know that a new series is in the works and should air sometime in 2014. In celebration the sailor scouts will be released as S.H. Figuarts and currently Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury are available. cc37ed1546b5d9475d8a2b37616fed67Originally released last year, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Figma sold out fast and was out of print for over a year. Due to popular demand the Figma has been re-released. Expect it to sell out again, so don’t wait this time (Samus has also been re-released).02634a1d546569a29584be4a4cebb098Not released yet, but this one is worth mentioning to fans of AMC’s the Walking Dead. This Painted ABS & PVC 1/6th scale articulated figure will release in March, 2014. Stay tuned or even pre-order it now.

walking dead mcfarlane toys governor andrea

McFarlane Toys also currently has the latest line of its Walking Dead figures that includes Andrea, The Governor, Carl and riot gear zombies.

kotobukiya psylock

I love the Kotobukiya Bishoujou line, and Shunya Yamashita does a great job with this X-Force Psylocke. For about $60 you can’t go wrong with the detail and beauty of this figure, I don’t have it yet but maybe after Christmas. and a definite must buy for music fans…… 51oPrc5DFHLThe Daft Punk S.H. Figuarts just released this month. Sold separately, these figures look great anywhere especially in their well designed boxes.

Art Books

Not your typical art books I have three must haves for you guys and gals.

20921#1. The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia

From Dark Horse Books and Nintendo, this book covers the complete timeline of the Legend of Zelda series, giving you a more in depth look while also giving you a better perspective on how everything comes to play. Inside you will find game information and artwork starting from the Legend of Zelda for the NES all the way to The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. It’s a must have for any fans of the series.

the_sky_art_final_fantasy_book#2. The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy Slipcase Edition

Another release from Dark Horse Books. The Sky: The Art of Final Fantasy was previously released in October 2012 as a Limited Edition Box set and sold out quickly (it now goes for a premium). The slipcase edition features three books featuring the art of Yoshitaka Amano from Final Fantasy to Final Fantasy X. An absolute amazing collection of art from the iconic RPG series another definite must have.

41GO1cD4kqL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_#3. MM25: Mega Man & Mega Man X Official Complete Works

From Udon Comics is the Mega Man and Mega Man X: Official Complete Works. They were previously released separately in one large collection. MM25 isn’t cheap and goes for about $100 new, but seeing as both MM and MM X go for over $100 each, this is a pretty good deal, especially since they contain artwork and concept art from both series. Mega Man fans can enjoy this while waiting for Mighty No. 9.

And lastly…

While this would fit under the toy/collectible section, I thought this definitely deserved its own section under nostalgia.

Yup growing up in the 90s, I would watch the original Power Ranger series all the way until Zeo. The Power Ranger franchise still exists 20 years later, but now they have celebrated the anniversary by re-releasing many of the goodies you can no longer find, unless you are willing to pay quite a bit. The original Morpher and Megazord are on sale right now. The San Diego Comic-Con exclusive gold plated White/Green Ranger morpher was released, but a regular version will also be on sale soon, along with the DragonZord and Dragon Flute. The team at Bandai also released a 3DS game that featured some of the nostalgia found in the original Super Nintendo games and even including the original rangers as playable skins.
