For some days now YouTube has been starting to go crazy with cracking down on copyrighted material from video games. Video game YouTubers all over expressed their anger when their videos were hit with a copyright notice for videos like walkthroughs and Let’s Plays (commentary plus gameplay). This means that they won’t be seeing a dime for the affected videos.
YouTube implemented the Content ID system to channels who are teamed up with a Channel Networks; for example, Machinima or Maker Studios.
“We recently enabled Content ID scanning on channels identified as affiliates of MCNs [Multi Channel Networks],” said a YouTube spokesperson. “This has resulted in new copyright claims for some users, based on policies set by the relevant content owners.”
The funny thing is that some of the video game companies aren’t even involved with the claims like Ubisoft, Capcom, Blizzard and Deep Silver. Many of these companies encourage gamers to upload and talk about the games, since they believe that it’s beneficial to helping with promotions. Nintendo is one of the few companies that is against it.
