Xbox One sells over a million on day one

It has been a good launch for the next-gen consoles. The PlayStation 4 was able to sell over a million units on day one, and now Microsoft has announced that it has sold over a million Xbox One consoles on day one as well. It’s a new record for Microsoft’s Xbox consoles.

“Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers,” Microsoft said.

“We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Corporate Vice President of Marketing and Strategy, Xbox. “Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season.”

Microsoft has also released some stats for the first 24 hours of launch:

  • Over 60 million zombies were killed in Dead Rising 3
  • Over 3.6 million miles were driven in Forza 5.
  • Over 7.1 million combos were stringed together in Killer Instinct
  • Over 8.5 million enemies were defeated in Ryse: Son of Rome

A things to note is that the Xbox One launched worldwide, while the PS4 still has yet to launch in Europe. It will start selling in Europe on┬áNovember 29. It’s sad to see that Japan is now getting left behind by both companies, since the PS4’s and Xbox Ones will launch there in 2014.

And here’s a funny pic (probably shopped for the Wii U one) of PlayStation and Xbox congratulating each other.
