Killzone developer, Guerrilla Games, working on something “completely different”

Guerrilla recently had a chat with Eurogamer, thus revealing the substance in the title of today’s news. Considering that Killzone 3 had only come out a few years ago, and that a new generation of hardware is about as good a time as any to explore new things, it’s a bit surprising that Guerrilla Games aren’t launching with something new already. Perhaps it’s just easier this way: to explore the known quantity, get a few million units sold to the hungry early adopters, and then spend some quality time on a new IP that undoubtedly takes more time to fully realize. For those interested, here’s a few quotes from Eric Boltjes, the lead designer of Killzone: Shadow Fall:

“I can be true about it, yes. That’s definitely what’s happening right now. I can’t tell you what we’re thinking of but yes,” Eric said in response to Eurogamer.

“As a studio we do want to branch out, and we have started work on a new IP, something completely different to Killzone. I don’t want to say anything about it right now, but as a studio we do want to keep it fresh.”

It would have been nice to see that new IP one game sooner, but game development is difficult, so I think we can let them slide. I’ll be glad to see Guerilla Games and Sony Santa Monica working on new things rather than treading too heavily on the same ground. What about you?
