Game artbook looks to help Blizzard staffer’s fight against cancer

KKG ArtbookCancer is a scary thing to have to deal with no matter who you are. That’s why it helped to restore some of my faith in humanity when I heard that a group of people are working to help raise funds for a Blizzard artist currently fighting against a very rare form of cancer.

Keven Kanai Griffith works as an artist for Blizzard, and has recently been doing work on Diablo III. He was diagnosed last year with a form of cancer calledĀ Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma, or ASPS for short, that forms as a tumor that can attach itself to the blood system. The tumor cells can then spread to other parts of the body, especially vital organs such as the lungs. This particularly rare form of cancer accounts for less than 1% of all sarcoma cases. There is currently no cure for it.

Non-profit group Gamers For Good is spearheading the campaign to raise funds to help support Griffith’s treatment by encouraging artists to contribute video game related pieces to compile into an artbook. The KKG artbook will be a collection of works relating to some of Griffith’s favorite video games, including Altered Beast, Super Mario RPG, and Super Metroid, and will also include some World of Warcraft and Diablo works. Over a hundred artists have already signed on to contribute, and all funds generated from sales of the book will go towards Griffith’s battle against cancer.

Gamers For Good are still looking for artists to donate their works. Those interested can submit them on the submission page by Nov 10. You can also check out the group’s Facebook page to stay up-to-date with new developments as they help to get the word out on the campaign.

Cancer is a terrible thing to go through, not just for the patient, but for everyone close to them as well. With your help, we can potentially find a cure for this devastating and largely unknown brand, and work towards stamping it out for good.
