Sir Ian McKellen set to play iconic Sherlock Holmes

ian-mckellenWith so many adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, what more could Hollywood give us? MORE SHERLOCK HOLMES!

This time, we will see an older Sherlock Holmes, played by Sir Ian McKellen, in director Bill Condon‘s A Slight Trick of the Mind. We will see Holmes aged 93, retired to the rural area of Sussex, and haunted by an unresolved case from long ago. His partner, Dr. John Watson is no longer with him as well as Holme’s mental acuity. He’s older and not the same crime solving sleuth as he was in his early days.

The film is an adaption of Mitch Cullin’s 2006 Sherlock Holmes novel, A Slight Trick of the Mind. There is currently no release date.

sherlock holmesThere have been over 80 actors who have played the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes in film and television adaptations. Currently, we have BBC One’s Sherlock, CBS’s Elementary and a third Sherlock Holmes film being worked on with Robert Downey Jr returning as the title role. We can now add Sir Ian McKellen to the list!
