True Blood: 7th season will be their last…

HBO’s president Michael Lombardo announced today that this coming season of True Blood, the 7th season, will be their last season for the hit show.

TRUE BLOOD has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO. Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.

Creator Alan Ball released a statement:

From the moment I read Charlaine’s books, I thought there was potential for something really special. Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations. I’m deeply grateful to HBO for being true partners and collaborators, and, of course, to the viewers who chose to spend Sunday nights in Bon Temps with us.

The show’s 6th season ended recently with high ratings and a cliffhanger. The last season left us with several vampires infected with Hepatitis B (now referred as “Hep V”) threatening both healthy vampire and humans. Sookie (Anna Paquin) is now with a newly reformed Arlcide (Joe Manganiello). Bill (Stephen Moyer) is back to his old self and vying for Sookie… again. Shapeshifter Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) is now mayor of Bon Temps, with Arlene (Carrie Preston) now running the restaurant with the name Bellefleur’s. Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) has a new vampire girlfriend. Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) is with a new vampire boyfriend and trying to redeem herself with Sheriff Andy (Chris Bauer) and his daughter. And we were last left with Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) burning from the sun… naked.

So what’s next for the people of Bon Temps. Ten episodes have been confirmed for the 7th season and will take place in over two weeks time on the show. True Blood will return June of next year (2014).
