D23 Expo: Captain America: The Winter Soldier clip description

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

After Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier was next to be revealed by Kevin Feige during the Marvel Studios showcase, everyone in the D23 Arena was treated to the footage that was shown in Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con. Which you can read about here.

After the Comic-Con footage, Kevin Feige introduced Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon), and finally Chris Evans (Captain America) to the stage. After a few tidbits from Stan, Mackie, and Evans, Evans told a very funny story about how hewanted to go to Disneyland after he wrapped up filming of Winter Soldier, without realizing that D23 was happening at the same time that he wanted to go to. He then told the crowd that we should all go to Disneyland right after the event. (Hey Cap, I’ll be there! I have a season pass!)

Next, we were treated to a NEW clip from the movie:

We open the clip with the Quinjet flying through the air. Captain America and his crew of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are on-board, including Black Widow and Brock Rumlow. Widow asks Cap if he’s “going to have a fun Saturday night later.” To which Cap replies, “Well most of the guys from my barbershop quartet are all dead. So probably not.” Widow asks Cap if he can ask this one girl out she’ll probably say yes. As Cap says, “That’s why I don’t ask.” “Are you too shy or scared.” Widow asks. “Too busy,” Cap replies. Cap then jumps out of the Quinjet without a parachute and a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent asks Rumlow if he “always does that.”

An unfinished cinematic is shown with Cap is flying through the clouds as the camera pans around him as he finally falls into the ocean. The camera pans over a cargo freighter (equipped with a helipad). A guard is walking as Cap comes up from behind and silently takes down the guard. We see a lot of shield usage in the clip and Cap meticulously takes down each guard silently one-by-one. As one guard tries to pull the fire alarm, Cap uses a knife he grabbed from another guard and throws it at the guard’s hand, thus preventing him from pulling the fire alarm.

After a few takedowns, Cap finally gets caught from behind as the guard yells, “Freeze”. Next thing you know the guard is shot down, as Rumlow is shown parachuting in. “Thanks.” Cap says. “Looks like you didn’t really need our help.” Rumlow replies. Black Widow lands and continues the conversation from the Quinjet when she asks Cap, “What about the girl next door?” as Cap completely ignores her as she hops off the railing. Next, we see Black Widow vertical zip lining down as she is firing her guns and she lands, the clip ends.

Overall, the footage looks really good. In comparison with The Avengers and Captain America: The First Avenger, Cap here seems more proficient in martial arts, parkour, and his use of the shield. The interesting thing about the clip is that the shield is using his “stealth” shield that’s been at this the Marvel booth at this year’s Comic-Con.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier explodes into theaters April 4th, 2014.
