It’s no secret now that J.J. has landed the be-all to end-all nerd gig with Star Wars: Episode VII. Many knew that this would more than likely be Abram’s last hoorah in the new Star Trek films. With the director seat now left wide open, many are left wondering who will fill the void in this newly revived franchise.

Just recently announced, a rumor that the one name at the top of the would-be directors, is G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Jon M. Chu. Jon is mostly known for his Step-Up films, and the last film he directed was the Justin Beiber documentary, Believe 3D. Feeling good about this news yet?

Sources claim that the studio is really keen on getting Chu on the director’s chair for the 3rd film. While J.J. might be busy with another galaxy far, far away, he is still slated to produce the film. This is still only rumor at this point, and no word when we will hear an official announcement. Star Trek 3 is scheduled to be released in 2016
