Sony pulling an Xboner ‘Always-On DRM’ with their new 4k TVs

Sony really wowed everyone at E3 by demonstrating that they won’t be adding “Always on DRM” garbage to the PS4. Then their CTO (Chief Tech Officer) went and did this.

For those of you who didn’t want to read that text wall, I’ll break it down for you: This guy wants to add Always-On DRM (I feel sick having to capitalize that) to their upcoming line of 4K TVs. I mean there’s stupid and then there’s that. Considering the backlash and the amount of back peddling Microsoft had to do, what in the bloody hell made this guy think that this was a good idea?

I know Picard, I know.

I know Picard, I know.

If these guys were really hell bent on preventing piracy, there’s a fairly simple way to do it but no one wants to: Make a new physical type of medium. Don’t know if you know this, but there’s a reason why piracy wasn’t a big deal in the VHS/Game Cartridge days: It was hard as piss to duplicate a plastic cartridge or tape. As far as I know anyway. The bottom line is Always-On DRM is one of the dumbest ideas I’ve ever heard since the robotic ketchup dispenser, but at least THAT brought some mild amusement!

What do you say to describe a guy who only sleeps 4 days out of the week? Probably a lot but if you ever see an obscure story about some kind of food product, indie game or something that doesn't quite fit on this site, you can (almost) guarantee this guy wrote it. Whether or not he was awake while it was written is anybody's guess.
