Square Enix uses a Phoenix Down at E3 2013 with unveils including Kingdom Hearts 3 and FF15

Since the Super Nintendo days, I’ve always been a fan of Squaresoft. With the merger of Enix back in 2000, I never had any doubt that the company would make games that fans like myself would love. There would obviously be a few games I wouldn’t like or want to play, but for a while, aside from remakes or releasing classic titles, Square Enix has been lackluster. Just until recently, Square Enix have been between good to great, with games like Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution to name a few. One game I was very hyped about led to disappointment, and that game was Final Fantasy XIII. XIII-2 itself looked much better but never caught my interest, and now Lightning Returns finally ends the saga. Once that’s over, Square can start focusing on other Final Fantasy games.

I can rant for a long time about certain Square Enix titles that still need to be localized, such as Final Fantasy Type-0, Dragon Quest X the online MMO title that would give Wii and Wii U users a reason to pull out that unused console. For now Square Enix has been moving focus everywhere and anywhere rather than doing any work on Final Fantasy 6-9, and the company has had some problems recently, especially in the US.

At E3 2013, Square Enix had an amazing line up that included JRPG titles, action, mystery games and a rebalanced/redesigned Final Fantasy XIV. Kingdom Hearts 1.5HD ReMIX, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, Saints Row IV, Murdered Soul Suspect were games that were very well received, with the Square Enix booth packed all three days. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn had people lined up for hours to get a chance to play the game while getting some goodies, but honestly the star of the show was the giant screen that was replaying the trailers of Final Fantasy XV (once known as the elusive Versus XIII) and the much wanted Kingdom Hearts III.

While KH3 and Final Fantasy XV itself created immense buzz over the internet (I can bet tons of people around the world all shed a tear that day), it puts Square Enix on the top of all social media trending worldwide, message boards and forums imploded with fans excited to hear KH3 and FF XV is coming to next generation consoles.

It was definitely a great and much needed positive press for Square Enix, as if a lot of Pheonix Downs were used.
