Agent Phil Coulson is back in the first teaser for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.! Clark Gregg, everyone’s favorite S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, never expected to return as Coulson after The Avengers premiered but as it is in the comics, no one stays dead for too long (This really isn’t the Ultimates universe). For months fans launched a “Coulson Lives” campaign and ultimately convinced the folks at Marvel to bring back Coulson as the lead of his own show.

With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. being set in the same universe, it only feels that the show would be the first stepping block in a plan to integrate not only the film but also TV shows into the MCU. If the show proves to be successful then it’s only a matter of time before other Marvel characters get their own shows, and quite possibly their own appearance in future Avengers films. It’s the beginning of something larger, so it was a no-brainer from the beginning that ABC would pick up the pilot for a season order, and they did.

During the season 2 finale of Once Upon a Time, ABC aired the first exciting teaser for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The show stars Clark Gregg as the ever popular Phil Coulson, and along for the ride are Ming-Na Wen (ER) as Agent Melinda May, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Brett Dalton (Killing Lincoln) as Agent Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet (Nashville) as Skye.

The biggest gripe that fans have is how is it that Agent Coulson is alive when he “died” in The Avengers. Although, it has never been proven that Coulson did die, the answer to how Coulson returns for the post-Avengers TV show will be answered in the pilot. On top of that, Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon had hinted that Coulson would eventually make a return in the films as well. So if that’s the case, there might be a chance that future episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may crossover with the future Phase 2 films and also have an impact on the show. It remains to be seen how Joss Whedon, the Godfather of the MCU, will be able to accomplish all this, but I can’t wait to see the results.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres this fall on ABC.
