Rocky the Musical: Fight from the heart (with song and dance)

the-rocky-balboa-picture-showIf you’ve ever wondered what Rocky Balboa would sound like singing (I mean, we all have thought of that, right?), you’ll have your chance very soon on Broadway.

The famous Oscar-winning 1976 film starring Sylvester Stallone will be heading to Broadway as soon as February 2014. No, I’m not kidding. Actually, I’m quite excited.

Disclaimer: My parents named me after the movie, my dad having just watched Rocky III.

The folks involved in its production are saying not to worry about this being cheesy. It’s not going to be a chorus kickline of boxers — it’s going to be very clever. And no doubt it will be, since the crew includes some very admirable and award-winning names in musical production (see creative team). Sly Stallone is also still very much a part of the Rocky franchise, so don’t expect it to lose its attachment to the original storyline, either.

Still not convinced? Did you know that they’re actually predicting the success of this from “Rocky: Das Musical” which debuted already in Hamburg last fall (and received favorable remarks from the critics in Germany)? Yeah.

It is important to remember that awesome music came from the Rocky series, including “Gotta Fly Now” and “Eye of the Tiger.” You’ll be happy to hear that these two songs will also find their way into the musical production as well.

Note: It’s quite possible I was conceived while this song was playing in the background.
